A Hight Dynamic Range (HDR) image is created by taking 3 or more exposures of the same image. You then take all of the exposures and combine them into 1 image using software such as Photomatix which ultimately shows greater detail in both the shadows and highlights of an image. This technique is commonly used in real estate photography because of the high contrast between dark interiors and bright window light.
